Filtration media Adsorbent
Bamboo Activated Carbon (30–60 mesh) is activated carbon made from bamboo, in fine granules for a thin polishing layer.
Made of: Activated carbon made from bamboo
Form: Fine granules, 30–60 mesh (0.60–0.25 mm)
Main job: Reduces free chlorine in a thin, fine layer
Used in: Waslix custom layered cartridges; also sold loose by weight
Fine carbon grains have more outer surface for their weight, so they react faster than coarse grains. A thin layer therefore does more work, but it also slows the flow more.
Reduces free chlorine: activated carbon does this within seconds of contact (University of Georgia Extension)
Faster per layer: the Water Quality Association gives 12–40 mesh carbon twice the reaction rate of 8–30 mesh, and 20–50 mesh twice that again; 30–60 mesh is finer still
Organic chemicals: not claimed; we have no test data for this grade
Evidence: well established Chlorine reduction by activated carbon, and the effect of grain size on speed, are documented by university extension services and the Water Quality Association. We have no datasheet or test data for this bamboo grade itself, so we credit it for chlorine only.
Fine carbon belongs late in the carbon section, as a thin polishing layer shortly before the outlet pad.
Layer position: After the main carbon layer; before ion-exchange resins, calcite and the outlet pad
Pairs well with: A main layer of Jacobi AquaSorb CS or CX-MCA; the filtration pad to catch fine grains
Keep in mind: Keep layers thin, because fine grains slow the flow; do not put it directly next to coarse media such as 4–8 mesh carbon or ceramic balls, or the grains can wash into the gaps

Before first use: Pour gently to keep dust down, then rinse longer than coarse grades until the water runs clear; fine carbon sheds more fines, and new carbon can raise the pH of the water for a while after installation
Storage: Keep sealed and dry, away from odours, solvents and strong chemicals; wet carbon draws oxygen from the air, so store it in a well-ventilated place
Replacement: Replace it with the cartridge on its planned schedule; a used-up carbon layer works less well and can release chemicals it collected
Fine grains react faster, so a thin layer does more work. The trade-off is a slower flow and more loose fines, which is why it goes in thin layers ahead of a pad.
It will reduce chlorine, but we have no data on other chemicals for this grade. When you need chemical reduction, use it with a coconut-shell carbon such as Jacobi AquaSorb CS.
No certification is claimed for this product. Filter media can be certified for material safety (for example to NSF/ANSI 61) and complete systems for performance (NSF/ANSI 42 or 53), but we have not found such a listing for this material.
How well any medium works depends on your water, the flow rate, contact time and the other layers in the cartridge. This page describes the loose medium, not a certified filter system.
Bamboo Activated Carbon (30–60 mesh) is fine-grained activated carbon made from bamboo. Fine grains react faster than coarse ones, so a thin layer does more work, at the cost of a slower flow. We have no test data for this grade on other chemicals, so we credit it for chlorine only.
