Filtration media Wellness-marketed
Far Infrared Ceramic Balls are fired ceramic balls of a type usually made from clay mixed with mineral powders that raise the ceramic's far-infrared (heat radiation) emission.
Made of: Clay and mineral powders, fired (typical recipes); our supplier's recipe is not disclosed
Form: Ceramic balls
Main job: Marketed for far-infrared or 'activated' water
Used in: Waslix custom layered cartridges; also sold loose by weight
Every object at room temperature gives off far-infrared heat radiation, including the water itself. The mineral powders are added to make balls of this type efficient emitters, but water absorbs this radiation within a fraction of a millimetre, and far-infrared emission is not a measure of water quality.
Far-infrared emission: real, as for any object at room temperature; we found no independent study showing it changes drinking water
May nudge pH: a maker of this ball type describes it as 'weak alkaline', without figures; not measured for ours
No contaminant removal: we found no test data showing it reduces any contaminant, so we make no removal claim
Evidence: limited The only studies we found on water treated with far-infrared ceramics come from one research group and have not been independently replicated. Independent evidence for the marketed benefits is limited.
If you want it, add it as a single finishing layer near the outlet, after the treatment layers.
Layer position: Near the outlet, after activated alumina and iron-based media, and before the filtration pad
Pairs well with: Activated carbon and the other treatment layers placed before it
Keep in mind: It is an optional layer: it removes no contaminants, and any pH effect adds to other pH-raising layers

Before first use: Rinse until the water runs clear and send the first flush to drain
Storage: Keep sealed and dry; it is a fired silicate ceramic, so keep dust down when pouring and never crush it
Replacement: The supplier gives no service life; replace it with the cartridge
It is heat radiation, the same kind every object at room temperature gives off. These balls are made to be efficient emitters, but we found no independent evidence that this changes drinking water, so we make no such claim.
No. Choose the treatment layers in your cartridge, such as carbon, KDF or resin, for that. This is an optional layer.
No certification is claimed for this product. Filter media can be certified for material safety (for example to NSF/ANSI 61) and complete systems for performance (NSF/ANSI 42 or 53), but we have not found such a listing for this material.
How well any medium works depends on your water, the flow rate, contact time and the other layers in the cartridge. This page describes the loose medium, not a certified filter system.
Far Infrared Ceramic Balls are fired ceramic balls, usually made from clay and mineral powders, offered as an optional finishing layer for the outlet end of a layered cartridge. They are marketed for 'far-infrared' or 'activated' water. Independent evidence that far-infrared ceramics change drinking water is limited, and they are not a contaminant-removal medium.

Waslix gathers, organizes, and researches a massive range of products across water, light, air, and energy. We demystify complex technologies to simplify your high-involvement purchasing decisions, making complete solutions easily accessible.
